45 WASAC Staff and Stakeholders completed a five-day Training of Trainers

On 4th February 2022, 45 WASAC staff and stakeholders completed a 5-day training of trainers course, TOT held in Kigali from 31st January 2022 up to 4th February 2022. The program aimed at equipping them with skills for preparing, delivering and evaluating an effective training program.

Participants learnt the principles of adult learning, challenges that adult learners face, how to prepare and evaluate a training program, training methods, techniques and tools. They also gained knowledge on how to set the training objectives, mentoring and coaching process and how to conduct a training needs assessment.

The program, sponsored by Africa Development Bank, is also designed to ensure that WASAC has a pool of component trainers who will be available to upscale staff and stakeholders on a continuous basis as well as induction new joiner to organization.

After completing training, participants said they have gained necessary skills that will help them train their colleagues in order to improve work performance.  Murigo Jean Claude is the Head of WASAC- Musanze Branch.

“Now I’m confident to properly transmit what I have as skills and knowledge to my subordinate’s so that we can be at the same level of understanding, and deliver quality service to our customers as well as improve our attitudes”, He said. Marie Josée Nyiraburanga is the Sanitation Engineer in charge of supervision of feasibility study and engineering designs for sanitation projects.

“The knowledge gained will help me guide and train my co-workers on how to balance all projects constraints in order to help my organization to effectively plan and implement sanitation projects”, Nyiraburanga said.

During the closing session, Chrissy RULISA, the Head of Career Development and Performance Management Unit told participants that the training of trainers is part of a series of training planned for WASAC staff in order to build their capacities after training needs assessment conducted.

The afore-mentioned program targeted WASAC staff who have demonstrated success in their field with at least 10 years of experience, those who wish to become future trainers within their respective divisions, able to deliver the training when needed, having experience in engaging of adult learners in training and knowledgeable of the subject matter by providing theory and practical exercises. Some branch managers and head of water treatment plants were amongst the participants. The training also targeted the District WASH Boards, and District Water User Committees.
