On Friday 23rd April 2021, the Governor of Western Province, Security Organs and the Mayor of Rubavu District visited the Gihira Water Treatment Plant where they were briefed on the status of the Project and toured parts of the plant where rehabilitation was done.
This facility increased water production from 8,000 m3 to 23,000 m3 per day and the water will supply four sectors of Gisenyi, Rubavu, Rugerero and Nyamyumba.
The governor praised the construction of the factory and the progress of the works, he was pleased by the amount of water that was increased and the technology that was used in the rehabilitation of the plant.
He greatly encouraged the maintenance of this infrastructure as it is of incomparable value to the people of Rubavu. This facility will come as a reliable solution to water shortages issues that were rampant in some parts of Rubavu district.
