Health Centers, Schools and Residents benefit from the Rehabilitation, Upgrading and Extension of Water Supply Networks in Eastern Province

In the bit to increase access to clean water in the eastern province, wasac through its development partners managed to construct and extend pipelines of total length 130kms in areas of Tabagwe, Mirama, Busana, Mugari and Rwimiyaga I &II in Nyagatare District; Byimana-Rubona, Neke, Ngarama, Butumba-Mabare, Kagenge, Rwagitima and King zone in Gatsibo District; Cyatokwe, Kabonobono, Nyabombe, Kiyenzi and Juru in Kayonza  District.             

More to the above a total of 58 reservoirs were constructed and rehabilitated including a new Industrial Park which will receive 500m3 of water,2 reservoirs in Nyabwishongwezi each  receiving 500m3,one in Mirama that will receive 400m3, another one in Tabagwe that will supply 400m3, 15 new reservoirs of  (25m3 each) and 38 rehabilitated reservoirs.

The impact of these completed works is already benefiting different health centers and the various schools located in the area where it has reduced  long distances students were taking to fetch water and the health facilities have also been in position to keep good hygiene due access to clean water. Residents of Tabagwe, Nyabitekeri and Gitengure cells have also been in position to benefit from 42 water kiosks that were constructed. These water kiosks much as they are used to sell water, operators are able to sell other commodities for profit gains and the initiative has helped to improve their standards of leaving.                                                                  

By the end of the Nyagatare, Gatsibo and Kayonza project close to 113 651 are expected to be benefit including industrial parks, Schools, health centers and the new growing business centers contributing to social and economic development in the area.
