KWIBUKA 28: WASAC provides clean water to Rubugurizo Genocide Survivors

As part of the activities to mark the 28th commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi, the Management of Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) on 1stJuly 2022 unveiled 2 water taps in Rubugurizo village  which has Genocide survivors and other residents. The village is located in Shogwe Sector, Muhanga District.

The inauguration of the project was preceded by a visit to Kabgayi Genocide Memorial in order to honor the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi and laying wreaths.

In her remarks, Gisele UMUHUMUZA, the Ag.Chief Executive Officer of WASAC, said that besides providing them with clean water, the Utility paid medical insurance for 80 vulnerable families in the sector composed of 300 persons.

“Water is life, it helps you be smart and it is for all, but it is also good to have means that can help you get medical services. So as we are starting a new fiscal year of medical insurance, we decided to pay medical insurance to 80 families, “She mentioned

Gisele also thanked the partnership with Muhanga District and the residents of Rubugurizo Village, and urged them to take care of the water infrastructures provided to them.

SIBOMANA Celestin who spoke on behalf of the survivors and the rest of the residents, applauded WASAC efforts for supplying them with clean water as they have been facing water challenges.

“We are really grateful for having clean water near our homes. We used to fetch water from valleys and it was difficult for old women and men to access it. We are thankful to the good leadership of our authorities who tirelessly think of us”, He said.

The Vice Mayor of Muhanga District in charge of Economic Development, Eric BIZIMANA appreciated the country’s visionary leadership which always think about the programs to support the citizens, especially the Genocide survivors during the difficult period of commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in which everyone remembers the hardships that he/she went through.

“We thank WASAC for water provision in Rubugurizo Village. The water will help improve hygiene for our citizens “, He cited. WASAC each year provides clean water to some villages of survivors of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
