WASAC Group Celebrates Labour Day 2026 with a Call to Enhance Service Delivery
In his address, WASAC Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Asaph Kabaasha, commended employees for their dedication and contribution to the institution’s mandate. However, he urged staff to strengthen professionalism, improve service delivery, and actively combat malpractice such as corruption and poor performance.
“I thank all employees for their contribution in achieving WASAC Group’s mandate of providing water and sanitation services. But we also need to improve our work. I encourage you to reflect on your individual performance, identify areas for improvement, and fight corruption. Some of our services are not yet fully appreciated, and feedback from clients helps us improve,” he said.
The event also recognized outstanding performers of the year 2025/2026. Kabano Djamadar, Commercial Field Officer in Nyanza Branch, was awarded Overall Best Employee of the Year. Robert Rusibankiko, Legal Specialist, was named First Runner-up, while Niyikiza Gemime, Laboratory Technician at Mpanga Water Treatment Plant, was Second Runner-up.
Additionally, five retired employees were honored for their long-standing service and contribution to the organization. Among them was Ndayambaza Alexia, who served nearly 38 years, including during the time when the utility was known as former ELECTROGAZ. She expressed gratitude to WASAC Group management for recognizing her efforts and encouraged staff to remain committed, professional, and passionate about their work.

CEO Dr. Kabaasha also encouraged current employees to emulate the dedication of both award-winning and retired staff.
International Labour Day, celebrated annually on 1st May, honors workers and their contribution to economic and social development while promoting workers’ rights, dignity, and social justice. This year’s theme, “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment,” emphasizes mental health, emotional well-being, stress management, and safe, supportive workplaces.
